Is it just me, or does Dartmoor need a bit more 'Active Out'?
I’ve lived in this part of the world for a while now, and if there’s one thing I know, it’s that we are incredibly lucky to have Dartmoor right on our doorstep. But as much as I love a solo hike up to a favorite tor, I’ve been wondering lately: are there other LGBT+ people nearby who’d fancy getting out there together?
I’m thinking of something very informal. Not a club with committees and membership fees, but a simple community for people in and around the moors who want to swap the "indoor" scene for a bit of fresh air.
What could we do?
Nothing is set in stone, but the beauty of where we live is the variety. I’d love to find people interested in:
Hiking & Walking: From quick evening strolls to full-day treks across the north moor.
Cycling: Road loops or hitting the trails on a mountain bike.
Swimming: Whether it’s doing laps at one of our local pools or finding a quiet spot for some wild swimming in the rivers.
Wild Camping: Small, respectful groups for a night under the stars when the weather plays ball.
The Vision
The idea is "spontaneous and local." Instead of a rigid calendar, it’s about having a space where someone can say, "The sun is out, I’m heading to Bellever for a dip on Sunday—anyone want to join?"
Interested? Let me know.
This is a very early idea, and I’m just testing the water to see if the interest is there. If you’re LGBT+, live in the area, and like the sound of a "show up and go" outdoor group, I’d love to hear from you.
